I See
published at thievesjargon.com in 2004
You can’t drown memories
with self-help books,
any more than you can
with firewater.
I see the way they
sometimes look at me,
but I’d rather they slip past—
get your hand off of my ass.
Undersexed and oversimplified,
I’ve run too many circles
and I don’t care for this shit.
Did my best to fit this puzzle,
ain’t got the tricks to
carve my place.
Daddy give me a new name
and a wave goodbye,
we hardly knew each other.
